Quota International of Armidale, NSW
Sue Farmer joined Quota in 1992, having seen her mother fulfill her duties as an active Quota member. A member of the Armidale club, Sue has held the positions of secretary, treasurer, president, Unifem program chairperson and attendance chairperson. She has also been involved in South Pacific Area meetings, conferences, and the international convention in Brisbane.
Now retired, Sue was canteen manager of a high school. She has used her catering experience to cater many Quota functions, including the Craftarama, seniors luncheon, and international service fund-raisers. Working on behalf of the club, she has also provided a sensory garden and furniture for the Challenge Day Service for disabled individuals, helped the town band fund raise at their pancake breakfast in the park, manned the gates for Scouts Open Gardens, catered at the monthly stroke recovery afternoon tea, and distributed watermelon at Dumaresq Council Australia Day Celebrations.
Sue has also kept busy with other community service activities. She was elected Probus chairman and newsletter editor. She delivers Meals on Wheels and leads the community singing at a nursing home. A diabetic, Sue joined the Diabetes of New South Wales Branch and has been their secretary and newsletter editor and regularly works on their information and raffle stalls. As an active lay preacher and lay presider in the Uniting Church, Sue preaches in the surrounding district. She is also a member of several event committees, including the Christmas Day Luncheon and the Disabled Monthly Dinner, in addition to catering funerals.
Sue enjoys her volunteer work and being a member of Quota International. She has been living in Armidale for 18 years, is the mother of three boys, and has two grandchildren. All of her activities show what an impressive member and incredible person Sue is! Armidale Quotarians are proud to call Sue Farmer our Volunteer of the Year.
