Quota International of Collingwood, ONT
Maggie Durnford has been a hard-working, active member of Quota International of Collingwood since 2001. A self-starter whose energy cannot be matched, Maggie’s creative mind is always in high gear, whether she is organizing an event or presenting a musical or artistic idea.
Dependable and always there with ways to improve club services, Maggie has been instrumental in raising thousands of dollars—dollars that will make a difference in the Collingwood community! Her contribution to the club has been tremendous!
Maggie’s volunteer work has been a life-long effort along with caring for her husband and raising two children, a daughter and a son. Maggie also keeps busy at church and has even played the bells with a local group.
Prior to relocating to Collingwood nine years ago, Maggie spent four years as the chairperson for the city of Toronto’s Daffodil Day, a fund-raiser for the Cancer Society. Upon her return to the Georgian Triangle town of Collingwood, Maggie got to know her community quickly.
For the past three years, she has worked with Ride for Sight, by assisting them with their donation count. For the past two years, she has worked with the Elvis Festival, the largest festival in North America in which Elvis impersonators come from all over the world to compete. Today, Maggie volunteers with the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and contributes to its publicity. However, Maggie’s most noteworthy contribution to service is her work with the General & Marine Hospital of Collingwood, where she volunteers every Monday morning in the CAT scan department and where it is well known that Maggie’s bedside manner is second to none! Writer Mary Meek Atkeson wrote: “The best cosmetic in the world is an active mind that is always finding something new.” Maggie is a living example of this maxim. Be it service or fund-raising, Maggie gives of herself, loves life, and thrives on a challenge!
Maggie Durnford is a proud Quotarian who takes no moment for granted, and the members of QI of Collingwood are proud to name Maggie Dunford their 2005 Volunteer of the Year.
