Quota International of Monterey Peninsula, CA

Lella Thompson knows what it means to volunteer—she has been doing so for 53 years. Lella began by making clothing, rolling bandages, and even sealing bullet-proof gas tanks for B-24 Bombers as needed to help support the American troops in World War II. After marrying and moving to Ohio, she opened her home three days a week to care for young children so that their parents could return to work after the war. She also volunteered at the local soup kitchen twice a week for three years, before moving to Monterey. For the next twenty years Lella volunteered at the Gateway Center, a refuge for mentally and physically challenged individuals. Since joining Quota in 1978, Lella has been a positive force for both fund raising and service, always lending two helping hands when needed. In addition to holding every club office and having served as every committee chair, she will once again hold the position of club treasurer this year. Lella also serves as the club’s unofficial historian.
