2012 Quota Cares Month Winners

Quota International of Wellington

Honorable Mention

QI of Wellington held its third annual art exhibition for Quota Cares Month, raising funds to contribute to two charities. Artwork was solicited throughout Australia, and 80 artists of all ages responded with 123 pieces in various mediums, to be judged and viewed over the exhibition weekend. Opening night on Friday featured a wine tasting, as well as two raffles, which augmented the funds raised by ticket sales. Morning and afternoon teas were served by club members on Saturday and Sunday. The event was a huge success, and the club was delighted with the profits they were able to donate.

One beneficiary was Angel Flight of Australia, which uses volunteer pilots to operate flights for medically and financially needy people, transporting patients from remote places in Australia to major hospitals where they can get help. The organization is funded entirely by private donations, and Quota’s contribution—given in the Quota spirit of “We Share”—was gratefully received.

The other chosen recipient of the club’s fundraising was Barnardos Australia, a children’s charity for disadvantaged children that aims to help children grow up safe, healthy, and happy by supporting their emotional and physical needs and, when possible, the family structure. Again, the Quota spirit—“We Care”—is spread to the children through support of Barnardos’ programs.

Art can be healing in many ways, both for the artist and for the observer. For QI of Wellington, the artists’ works became ways to heal many who will never see them, whether by sending them on “angels’ wings” to medical care or by helping them build strong foundations in their lives on earth.
