Friendship was on the March menu for Quota International of Walcha! The club set two goals for Quota Cares Month: to raise Quota’s profile and increase membership. Their publicity program was ambitious, as members used not only media, but also service projects, to spread the word of Quota. Those projects included a Risky Business Forum, which educated 300 local children and 50 adults about drug and alcohol, and a Book Fair fund-raiser, which collected over 1,000 books to be distributed to the new oncology unit at the regional hospital; both gave residents the opportunity to engage with Quota and shared the club’s work through the posters and advertisements distributed throughout the community. The club also ran a public awareness campaign in two local newspapers and seized the window of opportunity—literally! Both newspapers allowed the club to put displays in their offices, including pamphlets on available hearing devices, posters highlighting regular library service to the elderly, photos of club members participating in projects like Daffodil Day and Pink Ribbon Day to raise money for cancer research, and examples of projects like Christmas boxes sent to disadvantaged children.
Quota Cares Month concluded with an event that capitalized on the heightened awareness: a Friendship Dinner. The club ran advertisements and extended personal invitations to friends and business associates, resulting in a total of 38 guests. The evening featured a raffle, the proceeds from which covered the cost of the event; testimonials from three members representing different generations of Quota; and a presentation of the club’s service projects. By the end of the night, several guests were expressing interest in more Quota events, building friendships that will last long after Quota Cares Month has concluded.
