2008 Quota Cares Month Winners

Quota International of Beckley

Top Winner

Ask the founder of any organization or business: the most challenging time comes in the first few months, when resources are stretched, time is short, and impact is tough to measure. Success takes lots of work, a little bit of luck, and support from the community. Quota International of Beckley provided that support to the local Women’s Resource Center, a new agency that offers a variety of services to adult and child survivors of domestic and sexual assault. Following medical exams at the Center, each survivor is provided with a change of clothing, putting new clothes high on the list of the Center’s needs.

Eager to help, Beckley Quotarians responded with “Quota Shares Clothes to Home,” an event held at the Raleigh County Convention Center. The club decorated the venue with clothesline and clothespins displaying the shirts, pants, and other items the club would later donate—in addition to the $900.00 raised during the event, which featured a silent auction and a self-defense demonstration from the local sheriff and chief deputy sherff—and, of course, a display board highlighting past QI Beckley projects, brochures, and invitation cards. This, in combination with features in the local paper and on television, meant increased awareness of community organizations new and old: both the new Women’s Resource Center and Quota International of Beckley.
