2007 Quota Cares Month Winners

Quota International of New Haven

Quota Cares Month—Honorable Mention Winner

Three hundred needy children in New Haven, Connecticut, have enough food for the weekend thanks to the New Haven Quota club’s participation in the Kids’ BackPack Program.

Twice each month, the Quotarians pack backpacks with soup, pasta, cereal, milk, juices, and snacks at the Connecticut Food Bank before boxing them for distribution to local schools. The following Fridays find these packages heading home with 300 children identified by the school district. These children often don’t have meals provided for them outside of school.

While this is an ongoing project, the club members decided to spend Quota Cares Month 2007 making local businesses aware of this important program by appealing to them for donations, directly and through the local media. The first $1,000 was donated by Quota of New Haven directly to the food bank, but the extensive news coverage given to this donation was worth a lot more, as each story included information for businesses and individuals to make their own donations. In late April, the Quotarians made another sizable donation to the Connecticut Food Bank, as a primary beneficiary of the group’s annual fashion show fund-raiser.

While club members don’t get to see the benefits of their good works directly, they recognize the value of their continued service, as do the two new members who were so inspired by this project that they immediately joined the New Haven Quota club.
