Hand-in-Hand World Service 2013-2015

QI of Sainik Farm: Preschool and Home for the Aged

This project focuses on two vulnerable groups—children and the elderly—through attention to facilities that serve them.

The initial project for Quota of Sainik Farm, the Quota Home for the Aged, was discovered and refurbished by the club 13 years ago. The club transformed a ramshackle home for the aged into a model for eldercare. Today, donations fund regular maintenance plus supplies. Club members visit residents regularly to offer emotional support, and they visit during holidays with gifts and food for celebration.

Poverty-stricken children need help in opening the doors to education, and QI of Sainik Farm continued its service to the community by founding a preschool. Coming from families who could not afford nursery school, children could be at great disadvantage entering public school in first grade. Today, with the help of Quota’s preschool, children aged three to six receive quality instruction and nutritional support which prepares them to enter regular school with their peers.

Over the years, the club’s other projects have included founding an orphanage, setting up a medical dispensary, and establishing a vocational program called “Muskan” (“Smile”) for people with Down syndrome. They have taken medical testing “camps” into rural areas, working on basic needs such as vision and hearing testing, blood tests and mammograms.

Hand-in-Hand donations for the period of 2013-2015 will mainly cover salaries for teachers and staff at the preschool, as well as facility rental and maintenance. Some monies will also be used to cover expenses at the Home of the Aged, as needed.
