QI of Metro Cebu: Special Education for Deaf and Disabled Children
Since its chartering in 2008, QI of Metro Cebu has devoted its efforts to repairing and renovating special education centers in the community. Its first completed project was the San Nicolas Special Education Center in one of the poorest areas of Cebu. In 2011-2013, the club moved on to renovating the Bulacao Community Special Education Center. This school’s condition was deplorable, and it remains a work in progress. Much work is still needed in 2013-2015.
The school serves both hearing-impaired and mentally disabled students with numerous special needs. Eight students have hearing loss, while two dozen others face challenges from autism to Down syndrome to cerebral palsy. They have struggled to thrive in a deteriorating building.
From top to bottom, with Quota’s help, the school is receiving a much-needed refurbishment. Quota aims to provide a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment that will enhance student learning.
Donations will fund renovation of the roof, ceiling, walls, lighting, classrooms, drinking and washing areas, storage, and shelving. Funding also will cover student programs and enrichment activities in reading, nutrition, sports, arts, family life, and more.
