Hand-in-Hand World Service 2013-2015

QI of Manila: Empowering Woman and Children through Education

Women and children in Metro Manila sometimes become involved in crime or fall victim to human trafficking rings simply because they are hungry. QI of Manila’s project aims to combat poverty and its effects through education and training for women and children.

Women in several areas of the city will learn to support their families through skills training seminars, mentoring, and Quota-organized income opportunities. In past years, Quota-sponsored training has included food processing, soap making, and a beauty training program, all leading to increased income and improved home life for the women’s families. Continuing classes will include literacy and job training skills, plus instruction in basic hygiene. Meanwhile, children and youth will receive meals as well as values formation classes that encourage a life of dignity, one free from crime.

Hand-in-Hand donations will cover supplies for literacy and training programs, teacher fees, and food, all helping to build a base for more secure lives in Metro Manila.
