Excellence in Service—Disadvantaged Women and Children

A favorite service project of the Baton Rouge club is creating newborn kits for needy babies at the Earl K. Long Hospital. The project provides approximately 100 newborn discharge kits, each containing a blanket, baby bodysuit, socks, and a small toy.

To supplement the project budget, members donated small toys and other items and were pleased to received donations from Wal-Mart and Sam's Club as well. One of the club's members then hosted an assembly party where everyone enjoyed wine and snacks while sorting, packaging, labeling, and tying up the kits. An informal dinner was held afterward to celebrate a job well done!

On March 24, Quotarians delivered the newborn kits to the Earl K. Long Hospital and the staff was thrilled to receive them. The Baton Rouge club has found that creating these attractive kits not only provides useful items to families, it also boosts the morale of the dedicated nurses who work in the unit. To quote the unofficial club motto, "We do good and have a good time doing it!"

QI of Ruston

Providing a happy moment for a few children in the community at Christmas has brought great joy, fun, and satisfaction to members of QI of Ruston.

The "Quota Christmas Store" was created as a service project to help the children served by DART (Domestic Abuse Resistance Team). Because many victims of abuse have overwhelming issues to cope with, Christmas can become a challenging time for both parents and children alike. So, Ruston Quotarians set up a shop, distributed "Quota" money, and assisted the children of DART in selecting and wrapping presents to bestow upon family members and friends. As a surprise, each of the children was also given an opportunity to choose something for themselves as well.

Needless to say, abundant blessings and benefits for both the Ruston club and the community have resulted from this service project that focuses on the gift of giving.
