Learning Lab Workshops
Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13

You don’t have to pay extra for your learning at Quota’s conventions. Our Convention 2008 LEARNING LAB workshop series builds Quota skills in publicity and membership, offers personal development programs in health and wellness and team building, and provides information about how Quota International operates and our award-winning Club-to-Club World Service program. Learning Labs are offered Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Choose to attend one of four 75-minute sessions each day for in-depth learning!

SATURDAY, JULY 12, 3:30-4:45 p.m. (CHOOSE ONE)

TRACK 1—JUST FOR CLUBS

  • "RIDE ALL THE RIDES"…Don't just be a member, live the Quota life!
Vicki Miller, QI of Mississippi Gulf Coast, U.S.A.

A wonderful and at times slightly offbeat look at being a Quotarian by a former district governor. Explore ways to take your Quota membership to a "HNL" (you'll have to attend to find out what that means). Forget membership drives! You'll have people asking you how to join! Get ready! Vicki's enthusiasm is contagious!

  • Club Incorporation Nuts and Bolts and the Latest on Club Tax Status Changes (for U.S. Clubs)
Holly P. Bostwick, West Area Director

Quota’s Board of Directors strongly recommends that all U.S. clubs incorporate or update their articles of incorporation. Find out why and learn procedures for getting started in this technical assistance workshop led by West Area Director Holly P. Bostwick, president of HPB, Inc., and an accountant for 30 years specializing in general accounting and record keeping for individuals and small businesses. You will also learn what Quota International is doing to obtain 501(c)3 non-profit tax status for U.S. clubs, how this new charitable tax status will benefit your club, and the procedures all U.S. clubs will be required to follow once this tax status is approved by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. All workshop participants will receive an informational guide with step-by-step instructions on how to protect your club from liability through incorporation. QI staff member Christy Herz will be available to answer your questions at the workshop as well as after convention at the QI office.

TRACK 2—QUOTA INTEREST

  • Quota 101—Everything you always wanted to know about Quota
    Brenda Chadwick, Central Area Director

You are a member of an amazing organization—the almost 90-year-old Quota International! In this fascinating program, Quota history buff and Central Area Director Brenda Chadwick will share more about our organization's history, its Founder Wanda Frey Joiner, our organizational structure, how we operate, how the We Share Foundation supports OUR volunteer work worldwide, and more. What you learn will make a great presentation at your club's next recruitment, community, or club event! Join Brenda in celebrating your Quota roots!

All attendees will receive copies of the Centennial Service and Growth Program, The Quota Branch Organization Kit, and information on how to launch a Silver Q club or branch (which just might appeal to a group of retirees, busy moms, or young people). President Daryl Perrine, President-elect Toddy Silkman, and Executive Director Kathleen Treiber will be in attendance to answer questions.

  • Quota’s World Service Projects: Up Close and Personal

Come and hear amazing stories of service success your generous donations have made possible.

TRACK 3—PERSONAL INTEREST

  • Laugh Free and Live—An Update!
Saundra Maisey, QI of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, U.S.A.

Join Past District Governor Saundra Maisey and learn how laughter and humor can change each day in your life in many ways you never realized. Did you know that:

    • 10-15 minutes of laughter can raise your energy level and help you burn calories?

    • Humor can help to improve communication, increase creativity, productivity, and overall performance?

    • Laughter can help to bring people together, strengthening relationships, whatever the environment?

    • Stress hormones are reduced when you are laughing, and this allows your immune cells to be better at what they do?

We’ll laugh a lot, and you’re sure to go away energized, with new ideas for how your daily experiences can be more fun and productive and less angst filled and stressful—whether it be in Quota, at work, or at school.
