Convention 2006 Learning Opportunities: Workshops and Panels

Attention all Quota lifelong learners…Convention 2006 is offering TWO afternoons of inspiring, educational, informative, and instructive learning opportunities. We have a learning adventure for every Quota interest—11 separate break-out sessions in all.

Saturday, July 22, 2:45 - 5:00 p.m.: "Charge Your Quota Battery" Workshop Series
Spark your Quota learning by participating in our Convention 2006 workshop series—five sessions offered in three different tracks designed to help you achieve excellence in your club, in Quota, and in your own life.

I. Leadership Development Track

  • Session 1
It's not Voodoo Magic: Secrets for Managing Conflict Constructively
Presenter: Beatriz Doran-Scoop, Past International President
    2:45 - 5:00 p.m.

This session offers professional, in-depth training on conflict resolution from one of Quota's most experienced human resources and management experts. Conflict is natural and our goal should not be to eliminate it, but to view it as essentially healthy. When handled in an encouraging and positive way, it can actually improve a relationship! Unresolved, however, it can be destructive to the parties involved and those around them. In this session, learn models that will enable you to:

    • Identify ways of constructively dealing with conflict in your club and/or district.

    • Identify and discuss when and why different methods of resolving conflict are appropriate to different situations.

This session is recommended for all club presidents and district governors.

II. Personal Interest Track

  • Session 1
    President's Travelogue: A Visit with Quota's Club-to-Club Projects
    Presenter: Carolyn Rice, International President
    2:45 - 3:45 p.m.

Travel with President Carolyn Rice on this one-hour journey to Quota's Club-to-Club World Service Projects in India and the Philippines. Witness the amazing passion and commitment shown by the Quotarians in both countries, not only to their Club-to-Club projects, which you have generously funded this year, but to the diversity of service work these clubs have provided wherever it is needed in their communities. President Carolyn shares highlights of her travels to these two countries during her presidential year.

  • Session 2
    Laugh Free and Live
Presenter: Saundra Maisey, District 29 Governor
    4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Have you ever laughed, just for the physical experience of laughing? It is well documented that the activity of laughter reduces cortisol, a hormone that causes stress, and it increases endorphins, which are the body's own natural opiates—they make you happy! Join your fellow Quotarians for some stress relieving laughter, and learn about the principles of Good Hearted Living © to help prevent "hardening of the attitudes." It's sure to be a fun hour. Together we can lead the world to health, happiness, and peace through laughter.

III. Quota Track

  • Session 1
Explore Quota's Finances: Answers to your Quota Questions
Presenters: Daryl Perrine, Treasurer, and Kathleen Treiber, Executive Director
