The Fairmont Royal York

Toronto is a city that has grown up around this grand landmark—The Fairmont Royal York. Just steps away from its famous doors in the heart of Canada's largest metropolis, is an exciting mix of activities and attractions that will leave you exhilarated. It's near Harbourfront, SkyDome, the CN Tower, the business district, the theater district, and downtown shopping. The Fairmont Royal York Hotel truly is ''at the center of it all.''

The Fairmont Royal York, originally constructed in 1929 and recently extensively renovated ($120 million spent from 1985-1995), has over 1,365 luxurious rooms that are adorned with beautiful and elegantly appointed traditional décor. The hotel offers exercise facilities, including swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs, weight equipment and treadmills, a beauty salon, and eight restaurants and bars on the premises.

Amenities in each guest room include personal temperature controls, voice mail, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, bathrobe, windows that open, mini-bar, cable TV with On-Command pay movies, video games, and all rooms feature Internet access.

The Royal York Hotel enjoys a rich history in Toronto and in the life of one very special Quotarian, Past International President Helen Macdonald. Her father, pictured below on the left, built the stone work on the top of the building—his last job before the depression hit.

The Royal York Hotel also ended Helen's dating years when she attended a Policeman's Ball at the hotel with a Scotsman named David Macdonald—a fast worker!—who proposed marriage a little over one month later! Naturally, the newly wedded couple spent their wedding night at the site of their first date, the Royal York Hotel.

When Helen's and Dave's first wedding anniversary arrived, the occasion was celebrated with a romantic evening of dinner and dancing at the Royal York Hotel's Imperial Room. Below, the happy couple prepares for their evening out.

Now Helen invites you to join her in making new Quota memories at the elegant Royal York Hotel in July 2004.
