Service on SiteA Sound Success!
Kate Chapman, acting deputy principal of Kumbari Avenue School received the gifts along with several Kumbari students, who performed a song for convention participants called "Five Little Kangaroos." Ms. Chapman spoke passionately about why music programs are so important to the learning and development of special needs children, saying music engages children, builds confidence and contributes to cognitive growth. It helps special educators include and connect with all students, regardless of their disability.
Governor Karen Murphy (above) of District 30, who coordinated the service-on-site
project, also addressed the convention saying "By sharing the songs
and instruments that reflect your own heritage and contemporary culture,
you not only share the gift of music, you also give children a unique
glimpse into a world they might never before have encountered. On behalf
of every one of the children, I personally thank you for all your donations."
