Speech
and Hearing Service Still Popular
In 2002-2003, service projects related to speech and hearing
remain among the most popular efforts carried out by Quota clubs, says
2002-2003 International Hearing and Speech Committee Chair Enid Croes-Marugg
(right), who also serves as Quota's South Area Director.
More than U.S. $384,000 were invested in speech and hearing related service
during the past club fiscal year. In the past year, Quota volunteers provided:
- hearing screening for infants, students, and elderly persons
- audiology equipment for hospitals and screening training for staff
- sound amplification systems for elementary schools
- hearing aids and batteries
- instruction in sign language for children and adults
- field trips, camps, parties, and activities for hearing-impaired children
- a museum exhibit on the effects of noise
- tuition assistance
QI
of Orillia, Ontario, Canada, created a project to help hearing-impaired persons
take a taxi. Club President Laurie Neill (right) presented the story during
Director Enid's presentation. The story will be included in an upcoming Quota
publication.
