January 10, 2005
Dear Fellow Quotarians:
Happy New Year! Can you believe it is 2005, and we are six months into
our Quota year? Every January we make up new resolutions for ourselves,
and this is an exciting time to stretch our imagination so we can come
up with some great ones. How about creating some new resolutions on your
involvement in Quota? Can you improve how you look at your club, your
Quota friends, your service projects, and fund-raising? Maybe you can
surprise that special Quotarian with a note of appreciation? Every slight
change of thought or doing makes a ripple across the pond and does affect
everything else. Your positive attitude and "can-do" attitude
makes a difference in how you feel and affect those around you.
Nowhere is this more evident than in Southeast Asia as the tsunami disaster
takes its toll on the people. Upon hearing the devastating news, I sent
an e-mail letter to our local clubs in the affected area. To this day,
we are fortunate not to have lost any members, and we are hopeful this
will remain true in the days to come. We also sent a special edition Quota
e-Bulletin to members around the world conveying our thoughts and prayers
for the victims and their families.
Quotarians care deeply about their immediate community as well as the global
community. You can observe a moment of silence at your next Quota meeting
out of respect for those who were injured or killed and their loved ones.
You can make a donation in Quota International's name to the disaster
relief agency of your club's choice. Whatever you choose to do, won't
you share the ways in which your club has chosen to acknowledge this crisis
with our staff? Because Quota caring connects members worldwide, we shall
be collecting your stories of service and caring related to this crisis
and publishing them on our We Share Foundation Web site. Our e-mail address
is staff@quota.org, or you
can send a letter or fax if you prefer.
New
Quota Club Charters
I am pleased to announce that on December 12, 2004, our newest
club, Quota International of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., was chartered.
It was a joyous occasion as we welcomed another club into our Quota family
and enjoyed meeting Quotarians from around the district.

And speaking of chartering new clubs, below is a photo of Quota International
of Silver City, New South Wales, Australia's party on August 6, 2004.

Board
of Directors Meeting
We will be meeting for our mid-term board meeting from January 17-20, 2005,
in Washington, D.C., and we will be discussing many issues and exploring ways
that we can further support our members. Stay tuned for the latest developments
next month.

Donuts,
Donuts, Donuts
Krispy Crème Donut Company has teamed up with Quota International
of Liverpool, Australia, in a partnership where Krispy Crème Donuts'
staff will provide support when the club is holding a function, doing
a fund-raising project, or engaging in community service. This includes
providing $5,000 towards the club's major fund-raiser, promotional printing,
publicity, staffing at events, and 5,000 free donuts. This is a fabulous
idea and a win-win situation for everyone. For more information, contact
South Pacific Director June Young at jyoung43@bigpond.net.au.

My 2005 wish for you is to really, really enjoy being a Quotarian. We
have one opportunity to be here, and it is important for us to realize
that we are very special and unique. We all are different and have much
to share with each other. I would like to end by sharing with you one
of my favorite sayings from Dr. Kent M. Keith:

The Paradoxical Commandments
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish
ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and
true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas
can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest
minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you
do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get
kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
