President’s Message

2004-2005
International President
Nicôl Lea

May 18, 2005

Dear Fellow Quotarians:

This month's message comes to you later than usual because I was delayed by the impact of two items of unfortunate news.

First, my mom, Cynthia Lee, was diagnosed with Stage 4 primary peritoneal cancer (a rare cancer of the lining of the abdominal cavity). This was a shock, because my mom has been very healthy and relatively free of illness her entire life. Mom is a seven-year Quotarian and belongs to the same club I belong to—Quota International of Cupertino, California.

Michele Lee (my sister); her daughter, Lauren Lee; Cynthia Lee (my mom); and me at installation banquet, Toronto.

Second, at the same time, my traveling Quotarian buddy from my club, Judy Burrill, was diagnosed with four malignant brain tumors the day we were to travel to the District 7 Conference in Kirksville, Missouri, U.S.A., and she could not make the trip.

Me and Judy Burrill in Aruba for QI of Aruba luncheon in our honor.

Judy is now undergoing radiation therapy and my mom, Cynthia, is scheduled for chemotherapy starting tomorrow. Both are doing well and have a very positive attitude despite their serious conditions.

During these past few weeks, the support and love expressed by fellow Quotarians worldwide for Judy, Cynthia, and me exemplify the strong emotional support we Quotarians are known for. The caring given freely to Judy and Cynthia is astonishing, which is why Quota is so special and why I am a member. This emotional connection between Quotarians worldwide is a powerful bond that we often forget until something drastic happens.

As Quotarians, we need to remind ourselves of the power of this connection of caring. We need to remind ourselves that each of us is special, is precious, and brings our own unique skills and talents to Quota and the world. We need to remind ourselves to feel this emotional connection daily, not just when we need support. And, we need to nurture and honor ourselves, because we are in service to ourselves in addition to being in service to the world through Quota.

We serve our communities and we serve our own members in need during those stressful times. In our clubs throughout the world, the support we provide to each other is so important and stresses the value of Quota. There is this special bond of understanding of love and support that is felt without words. This is what makes Quotarians special, and I am so proud to be a Quotarian.

If you would like to contact Mom or Judy, they can be contacted as follows:

  • Cynthia Lee, 22831 Stonebridge, Cupertino, CA, 95014, U.S.A .

  • Judy Burrill, 360 Escobar Road, Portola Valley, CA 94028, U.S.A. (amamazon@aol.com)

Thank you for being you and for the wonderful way you express your uniqueness to others. I wish you joy, prosperity, good health, and happiness, because you deserve it!

With Love,
