October 26, 2006 Dear Fellow Quotarians, Sunny greetings to you all! Today I am home on my beautiful island of Aruba, but my travels since Convention 2006 have taken me to locations in the United States, and soon I will be traveling to India and Holland for two very exciting visits. As President of Quota International, I had the wonderful privilege of representing our beloved organization at an important meeting held at the United Nations in New York City, U.S.A. The meeting, the 59th annual conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other Civil Society Partners, held in September, included over 2,500 representatives from more than 90 countries. Here is a photograph of Robert, my husband, and me with two conference delegates.
It is exciting to note that Quota International has been actively working with the United Nations since 1949. In 1975, we were formally designated as an NGO! According to Michaela Walsh, president of the conference, history has taught us that the NGOs are much more in touch with the reality of the individual sectors than the governments of the countries. Here is a photograph of the NGO representatives meeting in general session.
I look forward to sharing more with you about this exciting conference in the upcoming Quotarian magazine. My next important business was attending this year's East, South, and West Area meetings, from which I have just returned. These meetings were great opportunities for Quota members to come together to discuss their area's business, to enjoy good times, and to learn more about Quota International. I congratulate our three area directors, Diane Labrecque, East Area Director; Gwenn Jackson, South Area Director; and Holly P. Bostwick, West Area Director, on their meetings. Each meeting was filled with important business, including international presentations, discussions of area business, speeches from nominees for international board offices, and, yes, some great Quota fellowship and fun. It was also exciting to hear from some exciting outside speakers and to visit the world famous House Ear Institute, which I did during my visit to California. And at each conference I enjoyed meeting Quota members as well as visiting with Quota leaders and past international presidents and board members who attended. And now, I thought you might enjoy seeing some photographs from each meeting. South Area Meeting (September 15-17, Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.)
East Area Meeting (October 13-15, Arlington, Virginia, U.S.A.)
West Area Meeting (October 20-22, Monrovia, California, U.S.A.)
Finally, let me end by announcing to you exciting news. I am pleased to report that I am traveling to the Netherlands for the chartering of Quota International's newest club, Quota International of Zutphen. This is the first Quota club to charter during my presidential year, and the chartering ceremony will take place on November 11, 2006. And while I am in the Netherlands, I plan to meet with members from our Zeist and Rotterdam clubs and the members of our Amsterdam Branch of QI of Rotterdam as well. Also in November, I will be traveling to New Delhi, India, where I will meet with the members of New Delhiarea clubs (New Delhi, Sainik Farms, and DLF City), and I will also be visiting all of the India Club-to-Club projects. This will be a wonderful opportunity for me to view the important work that your Club-to-Club donations support. We are all so proud of our Club-to-Club program, which was expanded this year to 14 projects in five Quota countries. The New Delhi Home project, which I will be visiting in India, was our first projectstarted in 1983. So it will be exciting to see first-hand the wonderful progress all of our Indian clubs are making. Someone once wrote, "As the flowers are all made sweeter by the sunshine and the dew, so this old world is made brighter by the lives of folks like you." I wish you every success with your own club's service work, and I thank you for the very special way you Share Quota's Sunshine in your ownand the world'scommunity. Warm and sunny regards,
