October 31, 2007 Dear Fellow Quotarians, For those of you that are baseball fans, you'll understand the analogy of "we've rounded third and are heading for home!" In Quota, area directors have hosted five successful area meetings, and the South Area will finish out the "season" in mid-November. President-elect Toddy Silkman and I have had the privilege of attending each meeting. It has been a pleasure to celebrate the many successes of our clubs, to meet our club presidents and district leaders, and to share current Quota news while introducing our exciting new Centennial Service Expansion Program. Thank you for warmly welcoming us to your region and for your dedication to our wonderful organization. Returning home from the West Area meeting, I watched the news with horror as the California wildfires spread over thousands of acres in several areas of the state, wreaking havoc on the lives of so many as they fled their homes seeking refuge and safety from spreading flames. As the devastation spread, I sent an e-mail letter to our local clubs in the affected area inquiring as to the safety and health of club members. To this day, we are fortunate not to have lost any members, nor are we aware of any members who have lost homes; we are hopeful this will remain true in the days to come. Quotarians care deeply about their immediate community as well as the global community, and within days many queries were sent to Quota International from various locations around the world offering condolences and expressing concern for the safety and losses of our members and their families. What can you do to help those impacted by the terrible fires? First, you can observe a moment of silence at your next Quota meeting out of respect for those who were injured or killed and their loved ones. You can make a donation in Quota International's name to the disaster relief agency of your club's choice. Most importantly, keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers. In other Quota news, I am very excited to report that our very first Quota club to charter under our exciting new Centennial Service and Growth Program will launch on November 17Quota International of Metro Cebu in the Philippines! We welcome this brand new club to our Quota family, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to club organizers: Josephine Mapeso and Lygia Ibanez. Have you heard about our new Centennial Service and Growth Program? Many area meeting attendees have participated in the workshops introducing this new program and have requested additional materials be sent to them. This new program offers generous financial resources and assistance for the launching of a new Quota club with a minimum of 20 new Quota members. Receive U.S.$1,500 when the club charters, an additional U.S.$500 if the new club retains charter strength when it pays its first annual dues, plus additional financial rewards when you add more than the initial 20 members. The key to the success of this program is the planning of service activities in the target community. To learn more, click here or contact Quota International Executive Director Kathleen Treiber at kathleen@quota.org (or 202.331.9694). We are creating a new Quota newsletter just for members interested in this new program, and if you would like to sign up to receive it, just let Kathleen know! I'm excited about the possibilities of expanding our Quota service in new communities, and I encourage each of you to consider sharing Quota with your neighboring towns and cities! International candidates for 2007-2008 are also raising their voices and profiles. Our nominees are skilled, articulate, and passionate about Quota! Area meeting attendees appreciated the opportunity to meet our candidates, and I thank our nominees for investing the time to travel to many of these meetings, reaching out and sharing their vision of our future. Canada, South, and West will elect new area directors by mail ballot in May, and we will elect our new president-elect and treasurer in San Jose during the convention in July. The filing deadline for international office candidates is November 30, 2007, and the deadline for reserving an ad in the Quotarian magazine has now arrived. To visit a special Web site for potential international nominees and to view and print Quotarian magazine advertising information, click here. And speaking of deadlines, the last day that proposed bylaws can be received at the Quota International office in Washington, D.C., is December 1, 2008. Bylaws received after this date cannot be considered. In closing, it is heartwarming to hear the melodies of Quota in every corner of the world. I thank you for your enthusiasm and passion for our wonderful organization as we Create a Chorus of Caring. Yours in Quota,
