President’s Message

2005-2006
International President
Carolyn Rice

March 29, 2006

Dear Fellow Quotarians,

Once again the forces of nature have wreaked havoc, this time in my homeland of Australia. Cyclone Larry, a category 5 storm, struck northern Queensland's coast on March 20 with winds of up to 180 miles (289 kilometers) an hour. While we have no Quota clubs in the area, our hearts go out in sympathy to those people and communities involved, as the destruction and economic aftermath means that the ensuing recovery of the area will indeed take a very long time.

Quota Cares Month
As the month of March draws to a close and we move into yet another busy month, April, it's heartening to know that so many clubs took up the challenge and participated in our annual international public awareness campaign. Clubs worldwide have celebrated "Quota Cares Month" in many innovative ways—through service projects and fund-raising functions all culminating in wonderful community support and publicity. I encourage you all to submit your Quota Cares Month successes to our We Share Foundation's annual competition. (To print a competition form, due by April 15, click here.)

I have been able to attend a couple of functions in my own part of the world, including my own club's International Women's Day Luncheon, which was a great success. Our guest speaker was a Para Olympian horse rider, an amazing woman. I also joined the members of QI of Taree at their "Tea Cozies" function—an afternoon tea and auction. Seventy tea cozies of all shapes, colors, and sizes were entered by business houses in the town. Public voting decided the winners, and the cozies were auctioned while guests enjoyed afternoon tea (over tea the cozies were auctioned).

Convention 2006

At convention in July, Quotarians from around the world will "Go for the Gold Coast" in Queensland, Australia, and I thought I'd share my ten top reasons for attending!

ONE: Learn the latest in Quota's World at the business sessions. To view the latest Convention 2006 schedule, click here.

TWO: Get involved! Share your vision and voice with volunteer opportunities: our Convention 2006 Service-on-Site Project (for details, click here), international elections bylaw votes, and our Leaders as Listeners Town Meeting—open to all convention participants, not just voting delegates.

THREE: Expand your horizons with the inspiring guest speakers, networking coffee breaks, and workshop opportunities.

FOUR: Connect and celebrate with club sales, opening ceremonies, evening silent auction, Wanda's Awards, and area meetings.

FIVE: Join us for Quota's first-ever, convention-wide Fellowship and Party Night; it's your opportunity to dine and party with your own club members, your whole district, or the new friends you have made from other countries—the choice is yours. As all board members, including me, are hosting the function, we will be there to meet and greet you.

SIX: Invite guests accompanying you to Convention 2006 to enjoy our new, comprehensive guest program! It's hard to be a spectator on Australia's Gold Coast, and guests will have the option of enjoying golf, fishing, canal cruises and sightseeing adventures. To learn more, click here.

SEVEN: Enjoy pre- and post-convention tours to Gold Coast beaches, World Heritage-listed National Parks in the subtropical rainforest, plus wineries and arts and craft galleries. To learn more about the wonderful range of half- and full-day tours offered this year to start and end your Gold Coast visits, click here.

EIGHT: Immerse yourself in Australia's culture and scenic beauty on Quota's Friendship Tour. This year's four-day/four-night tour will leave Conrad Jupiters and journey through the hinterland for an overnight stay in the rainforest, then it's on to a beautiful island resort for a second night. The tour then continues north through the Glasshouse Mountains to beautiful Noosa for two nights at the wonderful Sheraton Resort and Spa, before returning to Brisbane Airport.

NINE: Enjoy the best of company, fellow Quotarians from around the world, sharing their passion for not only service but equally for fun and fellowship.

TEN: Come to convention to just have the best time ever!!!

District Conferences
The month of April is a busy month for all clubs as your attention is focused on the upcoming district conferences taking place around our Quota world. Attend and enjoy participating in your district's program, celebrating your district achievements, and generally sharing fellowship and friendship. I encourage each member who has never attended a district conference to step outside your club and join your extended district family; it's an experience sure to bring rewards and possibly challenge you to go further and enjoy being part of our international organization.

In closing, may I say that wherever my travels take me—visiting clubs or districts, attending your meetings and your events—that it's truly amazing to see that by endeavoring to Reach Out Together we truly are making a difference in so many lives and situations within our own communities and indeed across our Quota world.

Yours sincerely,

Carolyn Rice
