February 8, 2005
Dear Fellow Quotarians,
I am writing this message on February 6, the anniversary of Quota's founding
by Wanda Frey Joiner in Washington, D.C., where the 2005-2006 Board of
Directors meeting has just ended. Our time together was bittersweet.

The 2005-2006 Board of Directors.
Just prior to leaving Australia for this gathering of leaders, I received
the sad news of the death of Past International President Verna Stewart,
a dear friend to me and many other Quotarians from around the Quota World.
The special Verna quality of a passion for all things Quota, and in particular
World Service through our Club-to-Club projects, was shared so abundantly
with all those with whom she met, ensuring that her legacy will remain
for many years to come. I know we will all miss her greatly. (To read
a special remembrance of PIP Verna, click

So it was with a heavy heart that I traveled to the United States for
the board meeting knowing that I could not be present at PIP Verna's funeral.
Past District 24 Governor June Dangar graciously agreed to represent me
and the members of Quota International at a celebration of her life.

The 2005-2006 Board of Directors engaged in discussions
at the February 2006 Board of Directors Meeting in Washington, D.C.
In spite of our sadness over the passing of our dear Quota colleague,
the board of directors discussed many issues of importance during our
time together. Here are some highlights from our meeting:
- The board passed the 2006-2007 Quota International and We Share Foundation
budget. This budget will be provided to Quota members at Convention
2006.
- Quota International's Articles of Incorporation were amended to permit
Quota International, Inc., to pursue 501(c)(3) tax status.
- We engaged in strategic discussions on Quota's governance and future
plans for Quota International's fund-raising, development and growth,
and financial future directions.
- The status of the calendar change was reviewed, including the many
ways this change has helped Quota International at all levels, saving
us valuable financial resources and reducing the workload of club, district,
and international leaders. A process for examining the calendar change
in 2007 was discussed.
- We discussed the importance of district conferences and our desire
to encourage as many Quotarians as possible to attend. (To view the
schedule of district conferences and the assignment of international
representatives, click

- Convention 2006 plans were presented with much excitement, and we
learned that registrations have started coming in. (To learn more about
our plans for Convention 2006 on the Gold Coast, click

- The board approved the decision to offer organizers of successful
branches reimbursement of expenses up to $150 (after branch dues are
paid) beginning May 1, 2006, the start of the next Quota fiscal year.
- We selected the site for Convention 2010: Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada.
- Area Director Reports shared all the successes from area meetings
held in the new timeframe last September/October.

The board of directors and I are also very excited about two new Quota
initiatives that have been unveiled this month in honor of Quota International's
birthdayQ-Mart 2006, our first on-line silent auction, which began
February 1and a brand new Quota charm series honoring all Quota
countries.
To finish, I hope you all take time during this month of February to
celebrate Quota's 87th Birthday and reflect on our proud history of Service.
Yours sincerely,

Carolyn Rice
