Quota Hurricane Relief Update

Dear Quota Members,
I have four important items to share with you today related to Quota International's hurricane relief efforts. Please share these important messages with the members of your club, as not all Quotarians and not all club presidents have Internet access.

  1. Quota Responds to Hurricane Katrina
  2. Hurricane Relief Press Release for Your Quota Community
  3. Urgent Message—Share Your Club Service and Hurricane-related Photographs
  4. Clubs Challenge Clubs to Donate

In addition to these matters, I was interviewed earlier this week by Radio 2NUR in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, on Quota International's hurricane relief efforts, and you can listen to this interview by clicking the following link: http://www.newcastle.edu.au/services/2nur/starlight.shtml. The interview is 4-1/2 minutes long.

Sincerely,
Kathleen Treiber
Executive Director

1. Quota Responds to Hurricane Katrina
New on the Quota Web site, we have published all of the wonderful communications and unbelievable photographs we have received from Quotarians around the world surrounding Hurricane Katrina and relief efforts. President Carolyn Rice, too, has published a special message to Quota International members on this horrific disaster.

Also, we also have published information on how to donate to our Hurricane Relief Fund as well as the names of those whose hurricane relief donations have reached our offices thus far. Donations are being collected and disbursed by Quota's charitable arm, the We Share Foundation.

You can find all of this information on www.quota.org by clicking the "Hurricane Katrina Latest News" link.
http://www.quota.org/qn/qn.katrina.htm

We will continue to publish new messages and reports of relief aid and hurricane damage that you send to us as well as the names of all donors. Please send messages and photographs to Deputy Executive Director Nancy Fitzpatrick at nancy@quota.org or fax them to Nancy at (202) 331-4395.

2. Hurricane Relief Press Release for Your Quota Community
Quota members worldwide are rallying to comfort and aid hurricane victims. Together we are working on one global project, and we are making a difference. Attached to this e-mail we are including a press release that your club can customize and use to publicize your club's local service efforts and hurricane relief activities. Information is included on how members of your Quota community can contribute. If you have difficulty opening this attachment (Word format), please print a copy of the news release on-line on www.quota.org (click the "Hurricane Katrina Latest News" link) or contact staff member Ingrid Miller via e-mail (Ingrid@quota.org) or fax (202) 331-4395 and let her know if you want an e-mail, fax, or mailed copy of the release.

3. Urgent Message—Share Your Service and Hurricane-related Photographs
Our Quota International annual Photography contest deadline of October 1 is fast approaching. We welcome entries from individual members, clubs, and districts! The $25 per submission entry fee (accepted in Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, and United States currencies) helps to fund the contest prize—a grant awarded to the Club-to-Club World Service project of the winner's choosing. Participating is a great way to obtain international publicity for your club and it is a wonderful way to also support Quota's World Service projects in developing countries. And, all contest photos are used in Quota Web and print publications, including the Quotarian magazine.

This contest was designed to celebrate and share your wonderful Quota service! And for the fifth year in a row, official U.S. Presidential Photographers based at the White House in Washington, D.C., will be serving as judges. To learn more, please visit www.wesharefoundation.org and click the "International Photography Contest" link
(http://www.wesharefoundation.org/serv.photo.cont.htm).

We also have an urgent need for any hurricane-related photographs. Please send photographs of hurricane damage and/or relief efforts. We will need your written permission to use photographs in our print and Web publications (or the permission of the original photographer if they are not your photographs), so please do include that. We thank you in advance for assisting us. If photos are your own, you may wish to submit them to the International Photo Contest as well!

4. Clubs Challenge Clubs to Donate
Two Quota clubs have challenged clubs in their districts, area, and worldwide to donate to Quota's Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund:

QI of Bismarck-Mandan, North Dakota, U.S.A.: "At our business meeting last night our club voted to donate $500 to the We Share Foundation and designate it to support relief efforts sponsored or recommended by local District 21 clubs in the aftermath of Katrina. Our check will be mailed this week. Further we would like our club's contribution to serve as a challenge to other clubs to match this amount or make a contribution consistent with their capability. This challenge is directed first to our sister clubs in District 22, and secondly, to clubs in our Central Area and throughout the Quota world."

QI of Bath, New York, U.S.A.: "At our first fall business meeting Tuesday evening, our club voted to send $1,000 for your Hurricane relief fund from our service monies. We are hoping that other clubs in District 17 will match our donation. We are praying for all those affected by this natural disaster."

We are happy to post any future club or member hurricane donation challenges on Quota's Hurricane Katrina Latest News site on www.quota.org. Please e-mail your challenges to nancy@quota.org or fax them to (202) 331-4395!
