Quota Mourns Death of PIP Marilyn Blake

Quota International regrets to announce the death of Past International President Marilyn Blake on March 8, 2006. A long-time member of QI of Orlando, Florida, U.S.A., she served as club president and District 27 governor, and she was elected Quota International president in 1981.

Marilyn's presidential theme, "Every Day in Every Way Quota Will be Better and Better," reflected her optimism and commitment to improving Quota International and the communities she served. Her presidency marked the beginning of a decade of growth in Quota's Shatter Silence program, which aimed to serve deaf and hard-of-hearing people. While president, Marilyn was named to U.S. President Ronald Reagan's Task Force on Private Sector Initiative, a committee of presidential advisors committed to developing, supporting, and promoting private sector leadership. Her tenure concluded with the 1982 Quota International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Along with her membership in Quota, Marilyn played a number of roles in her community. A renowned actress, she gave many memorable performances and was the lead in "The Royal Family," "Follies," and "Mame." She was awarded the Civic Theatre's Best Actress Award in 1963. As a 37-year member of the Florida Freelance Writers Association and author of over 30 documentary films for the Florida and Orange County boards of education, Marilyn also used her creative abilities to educate the public, and in 1970, she received a Cindy Award for a documentary film she penned. In addition, she served on the board of directors of the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, and the Easter Seal Society.

In response to requests from members and in accord with the family’s wishes, a memorial fund in Marilyn’s name has been set up in the Wanda Frey Joiner Founder program. This fund will honor Marilyn’s commitment to making Quota "better and better every day" and "in every way." If you wish to make a donation to this memorial fund, please write your check payable to Quota International and include a note that it is for the PIP Marilyn Blake Memorial. Please send it to: Quota International, 1420 21st Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036. We will notify her family of your donation.
