September 22 , 2004
Quota International regrets to announce the death on September 20, 2004, of Past International President Frances Landry. Founder of QI of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and member of District 21, Frances served as international president from 1942-44. Her presidential theme, "Quota's Role in War and Peace," was a call to arms to Quota members to get involved in any and all war efforts needed at home to support our troops overseas. She felt strongly that women were capable of working in competition with men in virtually every occupation imaginable, and she urged Quota club members to stand up and be counted. Quota members responded by participating in numerous war effort projects throughout the Quota world. She was also a strong advocate for involving women in the important post-war work of planning for a lasting peace. A practicing attorney for over half a century, she used her considerable skills of intellect, courage, and inspiration to lead Quota triumphantly through a time of ever-present uncertainty and moments of despair. She was a wonderful example of "being all a woman can be and more." She ended her term as international president at the 1944 Convention in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where she joined with fellow Quotarians in celebrating Quota's Silver Jubilee. In addition, in response to requests from members
and in honor of Frances's deep interest in Quota's service programs, a
memorial fund in her name has been set up with the We Share Foundation.
If you wish to make a donation to this memorial fund, please write your
