Marlene
Owens
District 33
QI of Morro Bay, California, U.S.A.
How long have you been a member of Quota International?
35 years
Why did you join Quota International?
I felt the need to help schools, our town, etc. I had school-aged children
in Brownies, Little League, pre-school, etc. They needed help funding,
organizing, staffing, etc.
What has been your most meaningful Quota experience?
Quota has been a lifeline in organizing a way to keep Camp Hapitok open
for children with communicative disorders for 35 years. The knowledge
I gained through Quota has been instrumental in establishing a non-profit
to fund the camp.
What are your goals for your year as governor?
- To help Quotarians see the need to become officers in their own clubs
and district.
- To establish goals for their own clubs in service that will attract
members and create enthusiasm among members.
What are your activities and interests outside of Quota?
My husband and I are active in Rotary, Black Brandt, and Friends of Hapitok.
I like gardening, wood turning, poetry, and my six grandchildren. I recently
"retired" from caretaking for my parents and my husband's parents.
