Frequently Asked Q-Mart Questions

What items are up for auction?
Dozens of items have been donated by generous Quotarians, including beautiful jewelry; a stay in Lake Tahoe, Nevada; tickets to an Ohio State football game; savory food items; a visit to a U.S. club by the International President; unique home and decorative items; and much much more! See the list of our wonderful donors to the right.

Can I still donate an item to the silent auction?
Yes!!! It's never too late for you, your Quota club, or your district to contribute a donation item. Please click here for more information and a form.

What will Q-Mart 2008 proceeds support?
Proceeds will support Quota International's Wanda Frey Joiner Development Fund. This fund supports membership recruitment and retention, new club and new branch organization, club development, and more.

Are the donations to Q-Mart tax deductible in the U.S.?
Yes! As of April 14, 2006, contributions or gifts to Quota International, a 501c3 organization, are now tax deductible as charitable contributions for U.S. federal income tax purposes.

For donors of auction items, the cost or value of your gift is a deductible charitable contribution. If you contributed a capital asset (jewelry, clothing, art, etc.), you may deduct the fair market value of it. However, if you contributed a product that you sell in the course of your business, the deductible contribution is limited to your inventory cost.

If you are the winning bidder of an item, your payment is a deductible charitable contribution to the extent it exceeds the fair market value of the item—you may deduct the amount you pay over the fair market value of the item.

In either case, we recommend you consult with your tax adviser regarding the amount of any deductible contribution you may claim for your gift or auction purchase.

How does the bidding work?
Click here* for step-by-step instructions for bidding on Q-Mart.

FIRST TO BID ON AN ITEM? You have two choices:

Choice A: If you are the first person bidding on an item, you will be required to bid the minimum amount (specified on each item) or more. Please type your bid in the "Maximum Bid" box. If your bid is bested by another, you will be notified by e-mail.

Choice B: If you wish, you may enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for the item. Type this amount in the "Maximum Bid" box. When additional bids are made, the silent auction site will automatically update your bid (by the amount of the "incremental bid" specified for the item). If your maximum bid is bested by another you will be notified by e-mail.

INCREASING A BID? If you are increasing a bid made by someone else, you have two choices:

Choice A: Increase the current bid by the "incremental bid" amount specified or more. Then check back as often as you wish to increase your bid. Please type your bid in the "Maximum Bid" box. If your bid is bested by another you will be notified by e-mail.

Choice B: Increase the bid by the maximum amount you are willing to pay for the item. Type this amount in the "Maximum Bid" box. When additional bids are made, the silent auction site will automatically update your bid (by the amount of the "incremental bid" specified for the item). If your maximum bid is bested by another you will be notified by e-mail.

I received a message stating that I have been OUTBID. What does this mean and what should I do next?
If you are bidding, and you receive an immediate notification that someone else's bid is higher than yours, this means that another bidder has authorized the silent auction site to automatically update her or his bid for the item. If you wish to continue bidding, simply continue to bid for the item by the amount stated for incremental bids until you have successfully become the highest bidder or until you wish to stop bidding.

When will winners be announced and pay for/receive their items?
Bidding for Q-Mart officially ends on February 29, 2008, at 5:00 p.m.(Eastern Standard Time in the United States).Winners will be announced on the Quota Web site beginning March 3, and the Quota International office will contact each winner individually. Credit cards of the winners (provided when you create your account) will be automatically debited in the amount of the final bid. During the first week of March, donors of each auction item will receive the name and shipping address of the winning bidder, so that they can ship their donated item to the winner. All donation items will be shipped within two weeks of notification.

I have a Q-Mart question—who should I contact?
Contact Brooke Phillips at the Quota International office, brooke@quota.org, or by telephone: (202) 331-9694 or fax: (202) 331-4395.

Donate an Item to Be Auctioned on Q-mart

Quota International is still accepting (and welcomes!) donations of auction items for Q-Mart 2008 ranging in value from $50 to $1,000 and up. Quota members, clubs, districts, areas, and people or businesses everywhere who care are invited to contribute an item. All proceeds from the auction benefit Quota International's Wanda Frey Joiner Development Fund. Donations to Quota International are now tax deductible in the United States. Click here for more information.

You won't need to send the actual item to us; you'll send it to the person who is the highest bidder when our auction ends. (You are responsible for the shipping cost, so please keep that in mind when selecting your donation item!) We would appreciate a photo of the item for the auction Web site.
