Our Quota Cares Month project
Beckley Quota’s March Cares Project theme was “Food For Angels”. We partnered with “One Voice”, a non-profit organization that is opening a new center in Raleigh County in April. They also have centers in several other West Virginia counties.”One Voice” is a community center that rescues, rebuilds, and restores communities one family, church, and community at a time. They are dedicated to developing a strong, healthy, safe environment that is drug free. They address some of society’s greatest problems by establishing a place where people can break free and stay free from the issues that master them. In their “Food For Angels” program they put together packages of non-perishable food items that selected needy children take home on weekends, Spring break, and Christmas break. For most of these children the only meals they receive are the ones at school. This provides them with a meal until they are back at school again. Our fundraiser was an auction.
How did our QCM project benefit our community?
By working with the community and local businesses, it provided all of us an opportunity to partner together to make a difference in the lives of others. With “One Voice” being new to Raleigh County, they were able to see the passion Quota shares working to address and correct problems we see around us. Quota members, One Voice workers and others that attended brought non-perishables to the auction. The auction raised $2635.00. Debra Davis, the leader did show an interest in becoming a member but has not committed as of yet.
How did our QCM project benefit our club / members?
As we work for the needs of others, we forget to be selfish. By working together we create a bond of friendship that can not be destroyed. We were able to share our abilities and serve our community to help someone near and dear to our hearts…..our children. We are able to get the word out in Beckley that Quota is a group of dedicated, hard working, women that strive to make the world around us a better place. All our members work so well together, preparing food, decorating, inviting others. Every member either brought items and/or talked with local businesses to donated wonderful things. Just to name a few: 2 Greenbrier PGA passes ($1000.00 each). 4-5 golf packages, centerpieces from local furniture stores, spa and fitness packages, wines from our local winery, wine party package, Jazz and Blues events, Theatre tickets, dinners and movie passes, Bluegrass events.
