Quota International of Salisbury, Maryland, USA
Quota International of Salisbury, MD has chosen Kathleen Wiersberg as our Volunteer of the Year.
Kathleen is originally from England. She was born in Kiddle Minster and grew up in London. She chose a career in the medical field starting out as a nurse in 1959 and graduated in 1962 with her RN degree. Kathleen immediately started her graduate work and passed boards to become a Head Nurse. She was promoted to a Sister in charge of two maternity floors and delivered thousands of babies. Kathleen moved to the United States in the sixties and continued her passion in the medical field by opening her own gynecology office. When Kathleen retired, she and her husband moved to the Eastern Shore to be closer to her family.
Kathleen joined Quota International of Salisbury in 2006, and she brought with her that same compassion and drive that she had in her medical profession. She has, unselfishly, given her time and talents to help those individuals we strive to serve. Whether it was manning one of the Salvation Army kettles during their Christmas campaign; filling baskets to be given to Coastal Hospice patients; designing and creating outfits for bears to be given to children during the Salvation Army’s distribution of Christmas items; or working with our Cops ‘N Kids Program; Kathleen has been there. While our Christmas Craft Fair Fundraiser is held in October, it is a year-long project working with vendors from all over the East Coast of the United States. Kathleen is one of the co-chairs of this project. She wears many hats in Quota and does it with the true spirit of volunteerism. She has served on our board and as a vice-president.
Kathleen has also recruited her husband, Bill, to become a Friend of Quota; and he helps with the accounting duties of our Craft Fair. Bill is not the only family member Kathleen has recruited. Her daughter-in-law, Gerrie, has become a Quota member as has Gerrie’s mother, Shirley. Kathleen’s granddaughter, Samantha, is the youngest Friend of Quota. Samantha has worked with her grandmother on many projects including manning one of the Salvation Army kettles. Kathleen’s grandson, Spencer, has been involved in our Christmas Craft Fair and Coastal Hospice fruit basket projects. Kathleen exemplifies those principals for Quota for which we strive to obtain—she cares and shares.
