Quota International of New Haven, Connecticut

Quota International of New Haven Connecticut is proud to recommend our member Doris DeWees as our 2013 Volunteer of the Year.  Doris has been an active club member since 2002.  Doris epitomizes the spirit of the mission of Quota through her extensive involvement with Quota affiliated and her own personal volunteer activities. Since joining Quota Doris has been a board of director member under a number of presidents and in this role she has made many contributions to our organization. She led an ad-hoc committee chartered to look at new avenues of volunteering for our club. As a result of this committee’s work we established our leadership role in the Connecticut Food Bank’s backpack program. This program works directly with inner-city schools to provide packs of food that are placed in children’s backpacks to supplement the in-school lunch programs. She has chaired two fashion show fund raisers and has served as co-chair at a number of visibility projects aimed at getting the Quota word out and as a potential recruitment tool. Doris is involved in the majority of club activities; some of which include the Chapel on the Green, a food for the homeless program, the Fellowship Place a program providing supportive services for adults with mental illness, Habitat for Humanity a program that provides decent affordable housing for families in need, and the Fantasy of Lights Easter Seals Program. She has attended three International Conventions, chaired an Eastern District Conference and attends local and district Quota events sponsored by other clubs.  Her volunteerism is not limited to Quota.  She also volunteers for Heifer International, the Hole in the Wall Gang, and the Creative Arts program of New Haven and does fund-raising for her local library. She is always eager to help.

She loves music, travel and dogs, and living near the water. But, the love of her family is paramount.  She is a perfect friend!

In Doris’ words, “My first International convention opened my eyes to the extraordinary work Quota members do selflessly. I am proud to be a member of Quota International. Our members, and in particular our club members, are caring, genuine, fun, supportive and have been there for me through the good and sometimes difficult times.”
