Quota International of Narooma Inc., New South Wales, Australia
It is a pleasure to nominate Sandra Haynes as our Volunteer of the Year. Sandra joined Quota in December 1998. In 1999 she became the minute secretary for the club. Since then she has held positions as president-elect, treasurer, and chairperson of every committee. She was president for two terms from 2004 to 2006.
Quota is a major part of Sandra’s life. She is a keen and cheerful participant in all our fundraising activities. For many years she was the driving force behind our Easter Garage Sale. Not only did she offer her garage as the venue and drop-off point for donated items, but she carried the responsibility for setting up the sale and packing things away again.
Through her dedication and interest, our club has held a weekly meat raffle at the local Services Club. She organises the roster and liaises with staff at the club. As a result, the meat raffle continues to be our most effective fundraising venture, allowing us to support local clubs and organizations.
When our club created a sensory garden, Sandra donated many plants (which she raised from cuttings from her own garden). She also tended the new plants and made sure they were watered.
Through her actions, Sandra epitomizes the true meaning of service. She enjoys helping at the Narooma Youth Cafe, and gives generously of her time to Meals on Wheels, where she was recently recognized for five years of service. She also visits the elderly in the nursing home and checks on her many friends in Narooma when they are going through difficult times.
If everyone had a friend like Sandra, the world would truly be a better place.
