Quota International of Iosco County, Michigan, USA
Karen Curtis is what you might call a ghost volunteer, no one knows all the wonderful things she does in our community. She is a native of Tawas and has lived here most of her life. She raised her four children alone and started a very successful beauty salon in East Tawas. Her salon is the dropping off and picking up station for Operation Shoe Box for our soldiers and the place to go to buy tickets to all the Quota Fundraisers. Her Mother was a member and Karen joined Quota because her Mom wanted her to. Now here she is twenty four years later being named Volunteer of the Year.
During those twenty four years she has held the Treasure position for many terms, is a member of the housing committee, started two of our clubs most successful fundraisers, worked at Fish Fry’s, Trivia Night, was a member of the Rules and Procedures Committee, Charitable Trust and now holds a Director position.
Outside of Quota, Karen volunteers for many local events. She gives her time to Relay for Life, Shoes for Kids through our hospital, helps out during the Triathlon, and she does the make-up and hair for all the actors at our local Theater.
Karen is presently assisting the Chamber of Commerce’s Fireworks Fundraising Committee and she was the Grand Marshall in the 2011 Fourth of July Parade. Like I mentioned in the first part of this article, Karen is a ghost volunteer, one ever knows all of what she does around the community and for Quota. She has touched the lives of many people due to her unending generosity and loving spirit. Just ask any of her lovely ladies at her salon, she is the truly, deserving of the title, VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR!!
