When 40 well-known male community leaders don aprons and head for the kitchen, you can bet there’s something more “cooking” than sumptuous Curaçaoan cuisine. Borrowing an idea from their sister club in Suriname, the Quota club of Curaçao, in the Netherlands Antilles, sponsored their first Men’s Cookout. Besides creating local and international dishes for the whole community to enjoy, an added treat was that for one whole day no women were allowed in the kitchen!
The event was far more successful than the club members could imagine. And the reason why? In a culture where women dominate the culinary arena, it is a rare site to see men standing over a hot stove. Quota Curaçao has certainly found a recipe for successful fund-raising.
