Quota International, Inc. is one of the world’s oldest international service organizations, celebrating its ninetieth anniversary in 2009. Quota International of Collingwood has been part of this network since 1977. The Quota club, as it is commonly known, supports communities of the Georgian Triangle. 2009 was a year of success for the Quota club. The service highlight was the ability to send 19 children to camp during the summer. We sent four deaf children to the Bob Rumball Camp of the Deaf in Parry Sound. This was made possible through the efforts of the Duntroon Highlands Golf. Our partnering with the Simcoe County Children’s Aid Society sent an additional 15 children to summer day camps through the YMCA programs. A big thank you to those organizations that chose Quota as a community partner. The Quota club served the local community and international projects in a variety of other ways in 2009: The Hospice Rainbow Bereavement program received our Quota Cares Bears; a child needing critical orthodontic care was assisted; hearing equipment was purchased for seniors and children; My Friend’s House received Quota Care Start-Up buckets; bursaries were awarded to high school graduates proceeding on to secondary education programs in Social Sciences; and the Quota Club continued supporting club-to-club projects in the Third world as well as fostering two children through World Vision. The service mission of Quota International focuses on deaf and hard-of-hearing persons and disadvantaged women and children. Together, local clubs provide hundreds of thousands of service hours and over a million dollars each year to help people in need in their own communities and worldwide. Many clubs provide scholarships for deaf persons or for students planning careers related to speech and hearing. The organization also works together to increase service impact when needs arise.
