This photo shows a “story-telling librarian” named Paige Bently reading a children’s story to a room full of children. Standing beside her is Jaime Walters, a sign language interpreter, who simultaneously told the same story using only sign language. Most of the children in the room could hear just fine but were genuinely intrigued and mesmerized by the sign language used for everyday words. It was wonderful to expose hearing children to this type of service and to increase their awareness and understanding of individuals with disabilities.
