2009 Photo Contest Entry

Quota International of Monrovia-Duarte

Members of Quota International of Monrovia-Duarte have enjoyed a long association with the Monrovia Public Library. Members voluntarily serve the library as tutors, bookstore cashiers, literacy teachers, readers, and help at fund-raisers. They also serve as leaders on the various governing boards that make decisions about programming and future projects. In June, the city held a grand opening of a brand new library building. Within that space is “The Big Cozy,” a room filled with children’s furniture built to look like giant books where little kids sit with Mom and Dad or their grandparents and enjoy reading together. It’s become the most popular space in the entire 28,000 sq foot building. In this photo, seven Quota Bears gather in “The Big Cozy” among hundreds of children’s books to read their favorite, “Winnie the Pooh.”
