Quota International of Plantation
This photo, submitted by Quota International of Plantation, is especially heartwarming to each of its’ members as it highlights one of their extremely successful local service projects, college scholarships for local deaf students, and features one of their members who is also deaf interacting with the deaf son of another member! The photo shows Quota member Donna Wallace using Sign Language to communicate with Ryan Vlazny, son of Quota member Darlene Vlazny, who is a prior scholarship recipient and is still attending National Technical Institute for the Deaf at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. This truly reflects making a difference in the lives of those in need –the need for communication and social interaction with an individual having disabilities, special needs and communication challenges as Ryan is both deaf and visually-impaired! Talk about a Quotarian in action! Donna needed to go beyond the “call-of-duty” to perform sign language in Ryan’s hands due to his visual impairment, a condition of Ushers Syndrome. Other members went out of their way to offer their seats to Ryan and his parents where the lighting conditions were most beneficial so that he too could enjoy the fundraising party being graciously hosted at Quota member Marilyn Steinmuller’s home. Quota International of Plantation raised $740.00 to give to Operations and everyone left understanding the true meaning of sharing and service to those in need!
