Members of Quota International of Whitsunday were fortunate to escape the ravages of Cyclone Ului Saturday 20th March as 200klm hour winds swept towards the coast. Cyclone Ului left a path of devastation for boats moored in its path. Some buildings in Proserpine and Airlie Beach have minor damage howevere the stringent building codes introduced since Cyclone Ada in 1970 saved the Whitsndays from the worst of this category 3 cyclone. Phone lines and internet connections were down and electricity was out for 36 hours. All in all we had a very lucky escape from a possible catastrophic outcome. It was a very long and scary night and the cleanup now begins…
