Eras Manis — Quota International of Port Huron, Port Huron, Michigan
Date of Death: December 6, 2009
Eras Manis, 83 of Port Huron, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family Sunday, December 6, 2009. She was born November 22, 1926 in Pirgos, Peloponnesus, Greece to the late Panos and Eleni Kouros. She came to the United States from Greece on June 1, 1951 to live with family in Ohio and Michigan. In 1952 she met and married Thomas J. Manis and were married for 48 years. Mrs. Manis worked alongside her husband owning and operating the Tom Manis Restaurant. She loved getting to know her customers and formed many great friendships throughout the years. Eras loved her family and friends very much. Everything she did in life was for them. She had a passion for cooking and was gratified when family and friends came to her home to eat the great meals she cooked. She enjoyed knitting her blankets and babysitting her grandchildren. When she wasn’t doing for others, she enjoyed playing cards with her euchre group, exercising with her friends at the pool, spending time with her Quota Club sisters, and traveling. Eras loved to travel, especially back to Greece to visit her beloved family that she left so many years ago. She was devoted to the Greek Orthodox Church and her faith in God. She was a member of St. Demetrios Orthodox Church, Port Huron Quota Club, Elks Club Vivians and Port Huron Auxiliary. She will be remembered by her family for her unconditional love of her children, her support and guidance and many cherished memories. She was the best “Yia Yia” to her grandchildren who were the joy of her life. Nothing was more important than spending time with them. Her family’s deep sadness is only lessened by the assurance of her eternal life with her Lord, Jesus Christ, in Heaven. She is survived by two daughers, Elaine (Terry) Roberts of Lakeport, and Mitzi (Reverend Joseph) Doenges of St. Clair, a son, Thomas P. (Jana) Manis of Port Huron; five grandchildren, Brianna Manis and her fiancé Dan Turnbull, Nathan and Jacques Brett Manis, Christian and Cameron Doenges; one great grandson, Jaxon Scott Turnbull; two brothers, Yianni (Mimika) Kouros and Apostoli (Popi) Kouros; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas on April 17, 2001; a precious son, John Thomas Manis in 1956; grandchild, Jamie Doenges and sister, Vasileki. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Grace Episcopal Church. The Reverend Father Demetre Mouselimis officiated. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers were Dean and Nick Cavis, Thomas and Christopher Kussurelis, Nathan Manis and Jacques Bourdeau.
